ABOUT

I’ve been taking photographs for over 20 years.  Since retiring from a career as a clinical psychologist I have made a full-time commitment to developing my photography practice.

My practice spans a variety of subject areas but all the projects I have worked on are guided by my belief in the power of the photograph to immediately and momentarily evoke personal memory and reverie in the viewer  – when we view a photograph, memories of actual physical experience and mediated experience are complexly and inextricably intertwined. As Proust describes it, ‘photographs are like mini hauntings’.

I hold both Licentiate and Associate distinctions from the Irish Federation of Photography. As part of my pursuit of a deeper understanding of core issues in contemporary photography theory and practice, and my desire to develop methodologies consistent with producing work that encompasses creative expression, good practice and accountability, I have recently completed an MA in Photography with Falmouth University in the UK.

Some of my images have been included in group exhibitions at Black Box Gallery in Portland, Oregon (Shadow and Light, March 2023), and the Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis (The Still Life, April 2023, and The Shadow Aspect, May 2023).
